YES Network - Publicity

As a Communications Intern at the YES Network, I worked full-time in New York City alongside the Vice President of Communications, gaining firsthand experience in how corporate communications operates inside a major sports media company. Each day, I curated and sent the news to the entire C-suite and executive team, then discussed current events and case studies from around the world to analyze how communications strategy plays out in real situations. I owned publicity for programming including “HexClad Presents Bronx Buds” and the “Sunday Lineup,” pitching coverage to outlets such as Newsday, CNBC, and the New York Post. I also prepared the network’s CEO and executives for media interviews through reporter research and briefings, and researched, wrote, and edited press releases, executive biographies, fact sheets, and award submissions. Beyond my core responsibilities, I developed and implemented the communications department’s AI program, and working across departments on company-wide initiatives showed me how communications connects to the broader business.

For my intern project, I collaborated with interns from other departments to create a potential new program for the Gotham Sports app, combining research, production, analytics, and creative thinking to build a concept from the ground up. Guest speakers from across the industry shaped how I think about the field, teaching me how reporters evaluate stories and pitches, how agencies operate, how AI is used in day-to-day communications, and why relationship building matters. I also built skills in writing for PR, professionalism, pitching, media monitoring, resourcefulness, and attention to detail that I can carry into any area of PR.
